Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Guidelines for Authors – Direct Science Open Journal

Manuscript Format

The manuscript must be written in English, in Word format (.docx).
Page in A4 format (212 × 297 mm), margins: top and left 3 cm, bottom and right 2 cm.
Font: Arial, size 12, single line spacing.
Indent 1.25 cm at the beginning of each paragraph.
The main file must not contain the authors' identification, including in the document properties.
The manuscript must not exceed 15 pages, including references.
Abstract and Keywords
The abstract must be up to 250 words, in a single paragraph, containing the objective, method, results, and main conclusions.
The abstract must be presented in English.
3 to 5 keywords must be indicated.

Citations and References

Citations and references must strictly follow the Vancouver style.

In the text, the citations must be numbered consecutively in superscript or in parentheses, according to their order of appearance in the manuscript.

The references must be presented at the end of the article, in numerical order.

Mandatory additional file: a separate file (.bib or .docx) containing the references in a format ready for import into Overleaf (LaTeX) must be submitted.

Graphic Elements (Figures, Tables, and Charts)

In the body of the manuscript, only the indication of the element (e.g., Figure 1, Table 2, Box 3) should appear at the point where the author wishes the material to be inserted in the final version.
The files corresponding to figures, tables, and charts must be submitted separately, as supplementary files to the submission.
Each file must be properly numbered and identified according to the indication made in the text.
Minimum conditions for figures:
Format: .jpg, .png, or .tiff.
Minimum resolution: 300 dpi.
Minimum width: 1200 pixels.
Maximum file size: 5 MB.
Tables and charts must be submitted in editable format (.docx or .xlsx).

Types of Submission

Direct Science accepts the following types of manuscripts:

Original articles: results of original empirical, theoretical, experimental, or conceptual research (up to 10,000 words, up to 5 illustrations).

Literature reviews: critical and systematic reviews of recent scientific production on a given topic (up to 8,000 words, up to 3 illustrations).

Case reports: detailed descriptions and analyzes of relevant cases, with academic, scientific, or technological contribution (up to 5,000 words, up to 3 illustrations).

Mandatory supplementary files

In the submission, the author(s) must attach:

Main file: manuscript without author identification.
Figures, tables, and charts in separate files, according to the specifications of item 4.
References file: in .bib (LaTeX) format or .docx for import into Overleaf.
File of personal data containing:
Full name and academic title.
Institution/affiliation.
Institutional email.
ORCID.
Submission Template
To standardize submissions, the journal provides a Submission Template (official template) in Word and LaTeX (Overleaf).
The template serves as a guide and must be used mandatorily in the preparation of the manuscript.
The template is available in the submission section of the journal's website.

Editorial Process

All manuscripts undergo double-blind peer review.
Possible decisions: accepted, revisions required, or rejected.
The average time for an editorial decision is up to 90 days.

Attention: Submissions that do not fully comply with these guidelines will be returned for adjustments before evaluation.
